The physical situation, in the Pomonok Houses project, informed the decision to maintain a simple, rectilinear concept, related to the urbanism of the street. The 22, 000.00 SF building is organized with two visually shifting bars. A free form inserted in the front office bar serves as the muster room and is available for public use.

Although the client did not request LEED certification, the team designed the project to strict sustainable guidelines, such as abundant natural light, insulating thermal wall, materials with recycled content and low VOC for all finishes.

“In the process of designing a structure, Pagnamenta fulfilled the strict police objectives in innovative ways. The most striking aspect of the design is the large expanse of translucent glass that extends over most of the façade. The glass façade serves multiple purposes, including the demanding police requirements. Additionally, the glass provides a thermal buffer that helps cool the building in summer (through rapid air circulation) and warm it in winter- thanks to the help of fluid dynamics studies by experts at the University of Pennsylvania.

Instead of putting up crude Jersey barriers to protect the facility, the firm placed a sunken garden outside, which will prevent vehicular assaults on the structure. “
