ALL THE ELEMENTS OF THE NEW HEADQU¬ARTERS OF THE POLISH ARMY MUSEUM HAVE BEEN COMPOSED TO CREATE A TALE OF THE GREAT POLISH MILITARY HISTORY.
The area, bordered with the walls of the former fortress, has been fully developed as a spatially and functionally coherent complex, integrated with the historic tissue of the Citadel. The project is connected to the historic architectural-urban layout. The building of the museum, along with the cubature development ( the roofed outdoor exhibition) is located in the area of the former Crown Infantry Guard. The dominant architectural scheme is the restored Guard Square, with its representative character. The space of the square is integrated into the museum’s hall through the flooring. The neighbouring park has also been incorporated into the military tale starting in the museum. The adaptation of the existing historic buildings, as well as various forms of the area development by way of outdoor expositions, an amphitheatre, and a playground, was intended at creating a culture park, with a motive of the history and present times of the Polish Army. The regular and temporary exhibitions have been planned on three floors. Various additional functions will also find their place there, such as storage spaces, maintenance workshops, offices, the library, conference rooms with an auditorium, and catering spaces. The north and south exhibition pavillions will hold an exhibition of outsize machines, vehicles, and military planes.
