“Floating Lido” by Martyna Marciniak from Poland
The main theme is the permanence of the swimming pools. The Promenade element is separated from the more impermanent swimming pool. Floating directly in the river is possible through the use of a membrane pool as if swimming in a fishing net. The flexible swimming pool structure acts as water filter and establishes the soft edges to the intervention. An underlying simplicity that relies on a series of technological elements to develop a low impact solution.
From the author: “The way fishing net unfolds and merges with the water-surface is an inspiration for materiality and aesthetics of the pool-design. The functionality of the promenade and the pool as key instrument is directly connected to and dependent on natural phenomena, mainly the tidal ebbs and flows on the river and environmental conditions; during high tide the pool is elongated in form. During low tide, the pool changes its form; it becomes shallower at the sides gaining more lido-like character.”
