The client’s assignment was to renovate a space within a building from the second half of the 20th century, located in the wider center of Bratislava, on Svätoplukova Street.
The first step in designing the interior of the ProRelo office was a purist approach to the historical and architectural layers. The space was stripped down to its original structural interior, which ultimately became an inseparable and aesthetic part of the design.
To this structural foundation, with exposed technological elements, we added a highly functional layout, developed through intensive collaboration between the architect and the client. The final layout was preceded by three comprehensive conceptual variants and numerous derivations.
The final design consists of a public area (entrance/reception, large and small meeting rooms, CEO office) and a three-aisle section dedicated to work—an open space divided by a block containing a document storage area, a kitchenette, and a phone booth.
Our goal was to create a bright, airy interior with a palette of muted colors, which, combined with surface textures, results in a user-friendly environment. In addition to clear and direct lines, we worked with circular motifs and their segments, seamlessly integrating them throughout the space.
Several elements from the client’s previous office were incorporated into the new design. The work desks are repurposed functional furniture, purchased at a symbolic price. Choosing locally sourced elements helped us reduce the carbon footprint of the interior’s realization, at least partially. Additionally, we complemented the space with distinctive furniture by SEDUS, a brand that exclusively manufactures in the EU. This furniture further emphasized the overall aesthetic and functional solution.
Furthermore, we focused on sustainability and acoustic comfort. Acoustic balance was achieved by integrating acoustic materials into custom-made furniture and applying them to the interior walls. A secondary outcome of our efforts was the creation of a unique design for modular acoustic elements called ACOUsee—hanging discs that we decided to brand under our own design label.
An essential part of the ProRelo interior is greenery, which is present throughout all zones of the space. It contributes to the overall design concept of interior alcoves, which, despite the open space layout and limited spatial possibilities, create cohesive and more intimate zones. This results in a better user experience within the office environment.
At AT26 architects, we believe that by combining all the above-mentioned design approaches and elements, we have created a high-quality work environment that motivates its users to perform at their best. At the same time, we trust that our design offers a user-friendly outcome. The positive feedback from the client and visitors to the ProRelo office supports this belief.
