Rancamaya Richmond House

Grrad interior as Interior & Furniture Designer

The Rancamaya Richmond Peak (RRP) house resides on a hill of a golf estate cluster in Bogor, West Java, Indonesia. The hill with approximately 400 meters above sea level offers a nice view of three mountains surrounding the estate area: Mt. Salak, Mt. Gede, and Mt. Pangrango, makes the house a good spot for a holiday home just under 100 kilometers away from the hustle and bustle of Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia.

The mission of the interior design of the RRP house by grrad was to enhance the holiday home experience by creating a warm and balanced vibe inside the house to complement the functional and modern aesthetics of the house architecture which finishes and details had been built prior to the interior design process.

The clients also want the interior design of the house to be able to bind new furniture designs with their antique teak wood cabinets originally bought from Jepara, Central Java years ago as well as the modern seating furniture sets from their main house in Jakarta, which of course both needs to be restored first. The interior design also curated and relocated some decorative elements like paintings and wall hangings from the owner’s private collections in their Jakarta main house to complete and liven up the interior design of the RRP house.

The main atrium of the house is designed to be the center of the house where the main living room and the dining area sit just next to each other without any wall partition or divider, alongside the big window opening and access to the pool area offering a great view of the mountains. The objective is to create a large open space with high ceiling and big French window opening to enjoy the mountain view from the house main seating areas. The large open space also connects the activity of living and dining in the hope of enhancing interactions between both family activities while at the house.

A full two-stories-height TV wall designed to bring up just the right amount of warmth that goes well with the previously installed marble white homogenous tiles and successfully becomes the focus of the house central area with the addition of contemporary style high ceiling rattan pendant lights. The same height French window style openings alongside the TV wall allows natural light in and offers the view of the mountain to be enjoyed from the main seating area consisting of a big L-shaped black leather sofa and grrad’s own contemporary wooden low armchair.

The bedrooms of the house are pre-designed with wooden floor finish, thus neutral colors were picked to offer a sense of comfort upon entering and being in the room. The interior design explores the color palettes for each room to deliver a non-monotonous yet convergent experience between each room, where grrad’s award winning armchair of natural rattan and black-painted metal fits right in.
