A townhouse, built in the 1920ies in Neubad in Basel is to be refurbished to meet the needs of a young family.
The chambered ground floor is freed from all walls and turned into one spacious room. A new steel structure and two space forming pieces of furniture, the wardrobe and the kitchen, organise the new floorplan. The original division of the space in two zones is beeing kept and reinterpreted. Being organised along two stripes, the main rooms and service locals come into contact and create a rich living environment.
In the upper floors the qualities of the old building are being hilighted. The two new bathrooms take up the materialisation of the ground floor and provide fresh accents in the simple yet rich existing building.
