Designed by the firm Caroline Andrusko Arquitetos, this 1,500 m² residence in Miami was developed for a Brazilian couple with four children who have been living in the United States for 30 years. The husband, CEO of a major company, and the wife, dedicated to her family and academic pursuits, dreamed of building a spacious, welcoming home with areas for socializing and leisure, as well as interiors that would reflect their roots and bring a touch of Brazilian identity to the architectural design.

The clients were already familiar with the architect’s work, having previously commissioned a project in Brazil. When they acquired the property in the U.S., there was already an approved architectural plan ready for execution. However, the couple did not connect with the original concept and invited Caroline to revise the architectural project in its entirety and to develop the interior design.

Despite the structural limitations imposed by local regulations—such as the inability to alter windows, roofing, or external concrete blocks—the studio reimagined the house in a Contemporary Farmhouse style. Architectural details were introduced to enhance the visual unity of the façade and create a harmonious connection between the exteriors and the interiors. The integration of vegetation with architectural elements enhances the feeling of natural flow and movement, contrasting with the symmetry in certain areas. The floor plan was reorganized to encourage fluidity between rooms and ensure everyday comfort for the family.

Spread across two floors, the residence is symmetrically divided by a central circulation space. The main entrance foyer leads to the staircase and offers a generous view of the pool and outdoor deck through a large window frame. On the ground floor, the left wing includes the living areas—kitchen, living room, formal lounge, and gourmet area—while the right wing houses the leisure and service areas, such as a cinema, game room, gym, laundry room, and guest suite.

On the upper floor, the entire left wing is dedicated to the master suite, which includes a bedroom, bathroom, two walk-in closets, and a home office. On the right side, there are four complete suites, each with its own balcony, closet, and private bathroom, as well as an additional laundry room for support.

Lighting was one of the project’s main challenges. Due to fire safety regulations, lighting points had to be defined with certain restrictions. In collaboration with Alma Light, the studio developed a lighting design focused on the essence of Brazilian light—warm, precise, and detail-oriented—despite the limited number of fixtures. The home theater required specific technical solutions to ensure an optimal user experience.

The main interior finishes include wood paneling, which adds warmth and visual integration across spaces. The material selection was guided by the intention to blend the rustic character of the farmhouse style with the freshness of contemporary Brazilian design. Natural textures, woven fabrics, linen curtains, leather, cotton rugs, and freestanding designer pieces contribute to a cozy and emotional atmosphere that aligns with the couple’s personality.

The lighting design also features signature design pieces. Fixtures by the Italian brand Flos bring personality to the spaces: the sculptural Orizzontale in the dining room and the Noctambule Suspension and Snoopy lamps in the couple’s suite strike a balance between contemporary touches and the warmth of the wood-paneled walls and custom shelving throughout.

One of the project’s highlights is a space that combines a library, home office, and leisure area. The expansive office library houses meaningful family objects, a piano, and a pool table, creating a multifunctional space that celebrates memory and lifestyle. It’s a true architectural extension of the family’s story.

All electrical and plumbing installations were integrated into the project following U.S. technical standards. The careful planning of light reveals, indirect lighting, and specific functional adaptations required special attention during the construction and execution phases.

Completed at the end of 2024, after two years of execution, this residence marks another international achievement for Caroline Andrusko Arquitetos.
