Designed by Caroline Andrusko Arquitetos, this 280-square-meter apartment was completely reimagined to mark a new chapter in the life of a couple with adult daughters and grandchildren. After 30 years in the same home, the residents decided it was time for a change. They initially considered renovating their former residence, but the desire for a fresh start led them to purchase a new home, with the intention of rewriting their story in a contemporary and welcoming setting. The apartment is located in Curitiba, in southern Brazil.
As the property was delivered by the developer, the interior design process began with an in-depth study of the couple’s habits, values and way of life. The original floor plan was completely transformed to meet the family’s new needs, creating fluid, functional spaces aligned with contemporary technologies and solutions. The premise was to preserve memories and bring meaning to every choice while establishing a light and modern design language.
The reorganization of the spaces was strategic. The floor plan was reorganized to create a large, integrated social area comprising a generous living room extending into a lounge, dining room, gourmet area and wine cellar. This expansive gathering space reflects the attention given to the residents’ everyday life and to the way they enjoy welcoming family and friends. One of the project’s defining features is the entrance hall, which opens directly off the elevator and is separated from the social area by a concealed door integrated into a wood-paneled wall, reinforcing the flow between the spaces while preserving privacy.
The color palette moves between off-white and soft gray tones, complemented by touches of green and terracotta that evoke nature and reflect the family’s character. Natural stone, wood, textured fabrics and artworks reinforce the elegant yet welcoming atmosphere of the spaces.
One of the standout pieces is the Hive table by Artefacto, placed in a dedicated area for more intimate and everyday meals. Although newly acquired, the table was chosen for its sculptural character and the way it relates to the residents’ daily life. It was carefully integrated into the living area without competing with the main dining table, maintaining a balanced composition with personality and comfort.
Another highlight is the spacious china cabinet, designed especially for the resident, whose passion for arranging tableware with elegance reflects her pleasure in hosting family and friends. Designed down to the smallest detail, the space expresses the care and affection devoted to shared moments.
The kitchen, located next to the dining room, is connected to a functional service area with a thoughtfully designed pantry. In the private area, the couple now has two generous walk-in closets and two interconnected bathrooms within the primary suite, which was also redesigned to accommodate two separate bathing areas. A private sitting room and linen closet complete the more secluded part of the home.
All plumbing and electrical systems were reviewed and adapted to the new architectural proposal, taking into account lighting, shelving and custom-designed furniture. The lighting was carefully planned to provide versatility while highlighting the curated selection of pieces throughout the interiors. Linear solutions, recessed profiles and directional lighting emphasize the artworks and create a harmonious and welcoming atmosphere.
