Designing a new multifunctional canonical building is always an attractive challenge; if the request is then added to the fact that the building will have to be located in one of the municipalities most affected by the recent earthquake, then the task becomes a mission.
Conceiving the form is never banal for us, a form that easily performs the required function is essential, but the form must in some cases be evocative, it must awaken the spirits and as in this case, be a symbol of rebirth, regrowth and resurrection.
A prophetic and ambassadorial work, this was the intent of the Dahlia studio in designing the building. A refined architecture of ascent, which symbolizes the return to life for a traumatized and discouraged community, a form that gives confidence in the near future, as well as a building that is capable of expressing divine magnificence.
The triangle and the hyperbole, the forms chosen to express this desire for rebirth, two pure, sharp and strong forms!
The plan of the building narrates all the perfection of the equilateral triangle, iconographic symbol of the trinity, of God and of the eye of divine providence.
The plan presents aggregative functions in the basic part of the triangle, while at the top is located the room reserved for the religious function.
The aforementioned room, if necessary, can also host a spacious and comfortable multifunctional multimedia center.
The highest vertex of the triangular plan is reserved for a slender, sharp and high obelisk, on the top of which resides the cross, symbol of Christianity.
The second symbolic form of the project, the hyperbola, is revealed in the front view of the building.
The ribs that perform the structural task, modify their shape creating a flexion generating the hyperbola, which in the lateral views of the project varies dynamically at every angle.
The fan that is created by the movement of the ribs of the steel structure grows in height and becomes sharper as it approaches the top of the vertex of the triangle in the plan.
A complex geometric shape, composed of triangles that generate an upward movement, towards the sky is a sign of the rebirth of the community hit by the terrible seismic disaster.
An evocative architecture, never invasive, fits perfectly into the strongly naturalistic context, modeling itself with its ribs already at ground level, almost as if to demonstrate that the movement of the earth can generate laceration and destruction, but also give birth to a trans-architectural space.
A work that follows the stylistic fil rouge of the Dahlia studio, where the anti-egotist architecture must be generated from the earth and remain as much as possible welded and hidden by it.
The materials composing the work are mainly the steel of the structure and the material duality in the external envelope.
The glass mainly, interposed between the structural ribs does not clearly delimit the contrast between the internal spaces and the external spaces, creating a visual exchange between the internal sacredness and the divine inviolability of the external nature.
