Robbie Ingham Stores

Three Victorian terrace houses in Oxford Street Paddington comprise the Robby Ingham Stores. Two of these terraces have been extensively gutted and restructured to form a 2 level emporium. The third has had a partial refurbishment to the street level only leaving back-of-the-house functions on the upper level. A clear demarcation between new and old has been developed through the use of materials, colour and spatial arrangement.

The existing timber floors have been retained in the original street front shops, with both walls and ceilings painted in a similar colour to the timber. The new double height space to the rear has a grey linoleum floor, grey walls and ceiling, a new glass and steel stair, aluminium louvres and a glazed rear wall allowing views of a large frangipani tree in a rear courtyard. The Dieter Rams designed 606 universal shelving system and Kreon track lighting are the two elements which are employed in both new and old zones, uniting the two and providing an extremely flexible display system for the constantly changing seasonal clothing and accessories.
