Nestled within the dramatic landscape of Ekaaya Resort in Udaipur, Rock Bar is conceived as an immersive outdoor hospitality destination that responds directly to the site's natural terrain. Rather than imposing a standalone structure onto the landscape, the project emerges from existing contours, transforming level variations into a sequence of interconnected social spaces.
The design is organized around a series of stepped platforms that integrate the bar lounge, pool deck, seating terraces, and landscaped areas into a unified spatial experience. Movement through the project becomes a journey of discovery, where changing levels reveal new perspectives and establish visual connections between architecture, water, and nature.
Designed as an open-air environment, Rock Bar encourages guests to engage with the surrounding landscape while enjoying a relaxed hospitality experience. The absence of enclosed spaces reduces dependence on mechanical cooling and allows natural ventilation, creating a comfortable and environmentally responsive setting throughout the year.
Material selection focuses on durability, simplicity, and contextual relevance. Natural stone and granite surfaces anchor the project within its setting, while glass railings maintain visual transparency and uninterrupted views across the pool and surrounding landscape. Integrated lighting enhances the atmosphere after sunset, carefully highlighting circulation routes, seating areas, and landscape features.
Sustainability is embedded through passive design strategies. The terrain-responsive layout minimizes excavation and preserves existing landforms, while open planning reduces operational energy consumption.
