Rödl & Partner, an international firm for tax, legal and corporate advisory, is based in the heart of Bolzano, overlooking Piazza Walther and the cathedral, in a historic building built between 1911 and 1914 as the seat of the Austro-Hungarian bank Österreichische Kreditanstalt für Handel und Gewerbe. The project renews the interiors of the second and fourth floors, preserving the historic parquet flooring, restored and relaid in a herringbone pattern.
„Untergrün“ the distinctive green of Rödl & Partner, accompanies every space and reappears in the custom furnishings and details, from the entrance corridor to the bathrooms. The second floor holds the main entrance, the individual offices and a shared meeting room, arranged along a central corridor. Here, the old masonry walls give way to glazed partitions. The new acoustic ceilings and sound absorbing panels improve comfort and the energy performance of the spaces.
The green continues into the restrooms, with a large arched mirror and the same tones echoed in each bathroom. A continuous light follows the ceiling in a soft, sinuous line, guides the eye along the corridor and introduces the refined atmosphere of the workspaces, while the glazing with dark frames spreads natural light into every corner.
On the fourth floor, beneath the exposed wooden beams of the historic roof, sit the reception, further offices and the break area. The glass partitions follow the pitch of the roof and lighten the distribution of the spaces.
Old and new remain clearly distinguishable, the herringbone parquet keeps the memory of the building. Glass, metal and the color green contribute to the wellbeing of those who live these spaces every day.
