PointOfView created the lighting design for Neil Perry's ROSETTA restaurant, which opened at the end of 2012 at Crown, Melbourne. Complementing the interior by BKH Design, the look is classic Italian, with Carrera Marble, leather, cherry wood veneers, velvet banquette seating. Mouth blown glass chandeliers, wall lamps, and table lamps by Barovier & Toso give hints of that old-world look, enhanced further by a wall of black and white photos of Italy's famous faces. And yet all is not as classic as it seems, something else is at play here. The domes above the three chandeliers are in fact lit with LEDs and fibre optics and state-of-the-art spots are carefully concealed in architectural features. It's not exactly kitsch, but there is a heightened drama to this stylish Italian interior.
