This new 1400 sq.m. 3 storey residence located on a fairly sloped 4100 sq.m. site overlooks Johannesburg East.  The design was conceptualised as stacked and intersecting perforated ‘boxes’, which rest on top of each other and intersecting monolithic concrete clad walls. The architectural material palette reflects this monolithic language through the use of dark grey aluminium perforated screens, and concrete panels that adorn the majority of the architectural feature walls.

Driving down the driveway on the south side of the home, a triple garage is situated on the left hand side, with a double garage directly ahead past the entrance, and a designated guardhouse with accommodation. Another perforated screen hovers over the glazed entrance, creating a porte cochere.

In terms of accommodation and programme, this home features 5 Bedrooms with en suite bathrooms and dressing rooms, a home office and kids’ study, PJ lounge, formal lounge with main open plan living, dining, and kitchen areas extending onto the lanai and swimming pool area.  A firepit is surrounded by the pool with a  view through the lanai to the east. The basement opens out onto the terraced eastern lawned areas, leading to the multi-sports court and putting green and houses the gymnasium, entertainment room, wine cellar and home cinema.

The home is equipped and integrated with a central hydronic air-conditioning and underfloor heating system, which services the entire home, while the home is fully automated in terms of lighting control, system operations and access.  Current loadshedding issues are not a concern as the home is equipped with an array of PV panels, inverters and battery backup, along with a generator.

The Interior of the home was designed and intended to introduce warmth and natural tones to offset the heavy exterior through the use of beautiful walnut timber for the flooring in main areas, as well as major shopfitting elements. This was offset through the use of Porcelanosa’s Xtone Liem Grey tiles, with metallic accents to transition these materials.
