Sattva- Embracing traditions with a modern-day approach Sattva, a residential project rightly named and designed by Curated Spaces studio is spread across an area of 7200 Sq Ft in the city of Nanded in Maharashtra. Epitomizing a delicate blend of luxury and functionality, Sattva, a 4 BHK residence was designed for a Jain family of eight that follows a contemporary lifestyle infused with traditional beliefs in their way of living. The Jain family, being a unique mix of modern values and traditional principles, envisioned an abode that reflects strong Vastu principles. In continuation with their primary vision, the brief given by the family focused on an ageless and modern design that optimizes the available area in the most efficient ways possible.
The design team worked with an ideology of providing the clients with a design that catered to all their aspirations while standing strong on their design values. It was a primary requirement of the clients to have a welcoming and serene environment in the house and that was achieved by the designers with a potent spatial design. The programmatic considerations for the house included expansive living areas, a cozy family zone, state-of-the-art kitchen, comfortably spacious bedrooms, luxurious bathrooms, a temple space and an effectively functional home office or study.
The design process began with a deeply collaborative approach wherein the Curated Spaces Studio conducted an in-depth analysis of the clients’ lifestyle and concluded how their design could align well with it. The expectations of the client to have a home that is both functionally efficient and visually appealing were realized through the consideration of the natural light, smart home technologies, and eco-friendly materials. Along with that, the designers ideated a layout that helped establish a seamless flow among the different areas. This not only resulted in an incredibly appealing house but also took care of the sustainability factors catering to a long-term vision.
Additionally, the ancient Indian science of Architecture, namely Vastu Shastra considering the direction of the sun was utilized for the orientation of the spaces ensuring harmony and balance in the house. Large fenestrations were incorporated to have access to ample natural light in alignment with the principles of Vastu.
Space description
Ground Floor- Living, Dining and Kitchen
Considering the family’s desire for a serene and welcoming environment, materials such as wood, veneer, laminates, MDF and the color palette consisting of shades of grey were extensively used throughout the home. The living room, for instance on the ground floor, is a sophisticated space adorned with extensive use of wood in wall panel and ceiling blending well with the furniture crafted with cane. An ornamental fluted glass partition separates the living space from the dining space. The dining area features an incredible traditional wall art creating a visual juxtaposition with a modern dining table design. The ground floor kitchen on the other hand balances out the extravagance of these spaces with its subtlety exuded by the toned-down shades of pink in the cabinetry.
First Floor- Living and Dining
Continuing the elegance on the first floor, the living and dining features the use of Duco painted MDF in deep rust shade with an undertone of pink in the couch and cushion fabric while it stands out in contrast with the primary wall painted in grey. The living area was designed to seamlessly blend with the dining room that exudes minimalist elegance with a state-of-the-art dining table with a stone-top that perfectly complements the veined marble flooring. The table, crafted finely with wood and fabric chairs, enhances the luxurious ambiance of the space.
Master Bedrooms
The bedrooms were thoughtfully crafted to reflect the personalities and preferences of their occupants. On the ground floor, one master bedroom features a luxurious upholstered bed with a tall, cushioned headboard adorned with sleek mirrors. The bed is complemented by side tables finished with veneer on each sides, a minimal unit on its opposite side and a meticulously crafted wooden walk-in wardrobe enhancing the ambience. The second master bedroom with its distinctive color palette comprising of greys, browns, beiges and blues is what dreams are made of. A cozy seating area by the large window provides a relaxing spot, with a slim cabinet with tinted glass shutter and a niche on its right. The rooms’ character is enhanced by a recessed lighting and designer pendant lights amplifying the opulence in the space.
The material palette contributed to achieving a sense of harmony by providing a sophisticated and warmth filled ambience with the help of natural stone, rich wood tones and glass. As the project neared completion, the attention to tiny details, decor and final styling elevated the overall design. With a budget of ₹4,200 per square foot, the project took 2.3 years to materialize with the help of incessant collaboration, attention-to-detail, issue management and regular site inspection. Sattva, as an outcome of the family’s aspirations combined with the Curated Spaces studio’s persistent efforts, manifested into an abode that reflects the traditional values and modern sensibilities of its inhabitants epitomizing how a space can enhance people’s lives.
