After restoration, Bedernau Castle shines in new splendor. The damage recorded in a preliminary survey was repaired in the course of the renovation of the building and castle wall in accordance with the requirements of a preservation order and restored to a high standard of craftsmanship.

The 16th-century castle complex consists of a cubic building with three stories and a pyramid roof, as well as an extensive fortification that runs partially in two rings around the building. During the period of the Thirty Years' War, the castle suffered great damage and was renovated in the middle of the 17th century. Today, the main access on the south side is through a bridge with a neo-baroque stone balustrade from the end of the 19th century. In addition to the round towers with conical roofs and the chimneys with profiled cornices, bridges on barrel-vaulted substructures to the south and southeast characterize the significant appearance of the castle complex.

The restoration work, which was carried out in accordance with the preservation order, included carpentry, tinsmithing, roofing, plastering and painting work. The facade of the castle building was given a new coat of white paint after isolated repairs. All windows were renewed, made of larch wood and also painted white. As a quiet contrast to the plain facade, the restored shutters shine in elegant Lasurite blue.

The discreet color scheme and the monochrome use of the blue tone give the castle a new vibrancy. In the course of the roofing work, defective roof tiles were replaced with new plain tiles in double coverage and the wall surfaces of the dormers were clad with panels of copper. Handcrafted titanium zinc window sills and copper downspouts and gutters complete the graceful appearance.

With the same careful approach, the surrounding castle walls with their balustrades and piers as well as the two bridges were restored in a manner befitting a historic monument. The necessary restoration measures were worked out according to the existing damage pattern.

In addition to the existing brickwork, custom-made concrete bricks were used for the restoration. The massive plinth walls and filigree metal fence elements between strong pillars frame the restored Bedernau Castle. Accompanied by strong retaining and defensive walls, the venerable structure takes on a new grandeur.
