SCRIGNO ROSSO CADORNA

AB Studio Architettura as Architects

In the bustling heart of Milan, in Piazza Cadorna, a renovation project curated by architect Jacopo Bonini has breathed new life into an abandoned warehouse-office, transforming it into an outstanding hospitality space: "Scrigno Rosso Cadorna.“

This metamorphosis is not just a restyling but a celebration of the intersection between tradition and innovation, where historical and modern elements blend harmoniously. The project, conceived by architect Bonini, introduces a central and distinctive element: a gigantic red cube embedded in the living area, inspired in color by one of the three tones of the "Ago, Filo e Nodo by Oldenburg” in Piazza Cadorna and by the "red line" of the Milanese subway that stops just below.

This "magical chest" is not only a visual masterpiece but also a functional element that houses the essential parts of the B&B: a kitchen, a wardrobe and a bathroom. The choice of a vibrant red color not only captures attention but also creates a fascinating contrast with the surrounding environment, enriching the character of the space. The client had a clear request: make the accommodation unmistakable, capable of immediately capturing the guest’s attention, both at the time of booking through images and upon arrival for check-in. The idea of creating an attractive focal point, like a 'colorful magic box,' was immediately met with enthusiasm, even in the preliminary design phase.

Next to the "chest" there is a traditional living area, consisting of a cozy lounge and an elegant dining area. The rooms, meticulously designed with attention to details, include a double bedroom with a desk, a master bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and a transitional study room. Each area has been designed to ensure maximum comfort and functionality for the guests.

A distinctive element of the renovation is the recovery of an arched portal, previously hidden and rediscovered almost by chance, which the architect preserved to enhance the contrast with the rigid lines of the "red chest." On the floor, Italian herringbone oak parquet adds warmth and sophistication, while the original early 20th-century ceiling and window frames preserve the historical charm of the building.

The walls, painted in white color, serve as a neutral background, highlighting the vibrant red color of the "chest" and creating an elegant and contemporary atmosphere. "Scrigno Rosso Cadorna" is not just a B&B, but a unique experience that blends design and functionality in a sophisticated and dynamic urban context.

With this renovation, the project offers visitors to Milan a new perspective on interiors combined with comfort, merging tradition with the pursuit of a contemporary and surprising interior design, typical of the city with its modern and innovative vision.
