Luis Felipe Aflalo Herman, Gian Carlo Gasperini and Roberto Aflalo Filho, partners of Aflalo & Gasperini Architects, one of the most important architecture offices from Brazil, presents Serramar Parque Shopping – a mall located in Caraguatatuba, a seaside town in São Paulo state, Brazil. Due to its location facing the ocean as well as riverside, we looked to create an open space integrated with nature, and declined the concept of an enclosed mall.

Therefore, they created wooded internal squares, with lounge areas of distinguished design and fragmented the disposition of the stores around them. They created the access to the mall between these fragmented blocks, which also function as wind channels, ensuring air circulation in the halls.

All stores face the internal squares; the halls are covered by a concrete awning and also have a bamboo canopy to ensure greater shade. The stores possess a pure shape, with faces partially sloping, which functions as shade for the façade more exposed to the sun. The food court is located in an area facing the river, and in front of it is a deck built with exquisite wood which can also function as a belvedere to gaze at the mountain view.
