The project called for a limited intervention in an office to maintain the most efficient open workspace layout. The strategy was therefore to rethink and redesign the public spaces (comprising the reception, meeting room, and pantry/gathering area) as a highly dynamic and sculptural form that contrasted and critiqued the banality of the surrounding cubicle-style work environment.
Comprising a band that wrapped and folded upon itself, the resultant form was termed a “social-condenser” – an integrated piece that combined the reception desk, waiting area, meeting room, and staff lounge. The different materials that articulated both sides of the band, as well as hidden cove lights and glass reveals, further reinforced the tectonics of form. The form was ultimately not only an aesthetic exercise – the band thickened and folded to accommodate different programmatic requirements, and the sculptural meeting space simultaneously framed views from within, while providing visual impact for guests waiting in the reception area from without. .
