SoliTek’s solar energy-generating noise barriers combine acoustic protection with renewable power generation — a dual-purpose technology designed to reduce noise levels from road or railway traffic while producing clean electricity.
The structure consists of a noise barrier system integrated with SOLID Bifacial glass-glass solar modules, which capture sunlight from both sides and convert it into energy that can be used directly in nearby infrastructure. This localized generation helps reduce the load on the public grid, as the energy is produced where it is consumed.
Solar noise barriers make it possible to utilize additional vertical surfaces for energy generation, achieving a more efficient land-use ratio compared to traditional solar parks. The SOLID Bifacial modules, manufactured in Lithuania, are known for their outstanding strength, resistance to wind, hail, and mechanical loads, as well as a natural self-cleaning effect.
Testing has shown that replacing standard acoustic panels with solar modules does not significantly affect the barrier’s sound reduction performance. New noise barrier projects can therefore be designed from the outset to meet all acoustic insulation standards while integrating solar energy production.
These systems can be installed along both road and railway infrastructure, providing a sustainable and space-efficient solution.
Key advantages of solar noise barriers:
Easy installation and low maintenance
No additional land required – integration into existing infrastructure
Flexible solar module layout possibilities
Provides the same acoustic insulation as traditional noise barriers
Compatible with standard acoustic panels
Adaptable to various barrier segment lengths and designs
Under Lithuanian conditions, generates around 750 kWh per kW per year – approximately 75% of the output of a conventional rooftop solar installation
