Our client approached us to design a new home for this lot in an established South Boulder neighborhood. Our goal was to create a spacious main living level with high ceilings, and to provide four en-suite bedrooms on the upper level to accommodate the entire family. The L-shaped plan has covered and uncovered living areas in the rear yard, adjacent to the custom pool, for maximum flexibility for family time or entertaining.

The initial plan was for this to be a high-end for-sale product built on spec.  However, through the process of design and customization, the builder / client realized the home could be a perfect place for his own family with young children, and shifted the concept from a spec design to a true full custom home.

Exterior materials are durable and timeless, with a combination of cement board shakes, metal siding, and natural limestone.  Varied textures complement and contrast each other.  Wood elements provide warmth, using custom exposed structural details and connections to add interest and architectural transparency.  The garage is tucked under the main level to allow for an expansive primary living space connected seamlessly to the outdoors.

The interior also accentuates natural materials with wood flooring, marble tile and countertops, and wood ceilings to bring the outdoors in.  Functional spaces like a mud room and butler pantry are tucked in behind the kitchen for easy access while keeping clutter hidden away.  Vaulted ceilings on the upper level bring coziness and unique character to each bedroom, while maximizing daylight and views through the expansive windows in each room.  Modern details like flush baseboards and door casing, create a unique and livable space.
