Concept
S+P Apartments respond to a key challenge for rural regions: attracting young professionals from urban environments while offering architectural quality and social integration. As part of an evolving campus in the Black Forest, the project combines living, working, and learning into a cohesive spatial concept. The apartments provide a high-quality temporary home for up to six months, easing arrival while encouraging exchange, focus, and personal development.
Form & Architectural Integration
The building integrates sensitively into its environment. To reduce the perceived scale, the volume is broken down into staggered layers, creating a welcoming and human-centered presence. A concrete base anchors the structure, while the upper floors are executed in timber panel construction. This clear structural logic supports both architectural expression and long-term durability.
Detailing & Spatial Quality
Detailing is central to the project’s identity. Clean lines, precise transitions, and high-quality craftsmanship define both interior and exterior spaces. Exposed concrete is combined with regional spruce and fir, creating a calm, authentic atmosphere. Private units follow the restrained comfort of a hotel room, offering clarity and retreat, while generous communal areas support informal encounters. Fluid transitions between shared and private spaces allow community without compulsion.
Sustainability & Impact
Sustainability is embedded in concept, material choice, and technology. The building meets KfW 40 energy standards and is powered by geothermal and solar energy. Regional timber reduces embodied carbon, while durable materials and flexible layouts support long-term use. Beyond efficiency, the project creates social sustainability by fostering connection, well-being, and a strong sense of arrival for future talent.
