At the end of 2003, T-Mobile completed the expansion complex of its head-quarters in Bonn. The company was looking for a way to stage their brand directly at the main entrance of the building without destroying the transparent architecture.
Lamellae over 300 square meters ag4 created the first transparent media facade in the world, set on a surface area of 300m². It is an outstanding example for the harmonious fusion of Architecture and Media.
Regarding the construction, it was important to take into consideration that the completed facade could not support any additional load. ag4 mounted vertical profiles in front of the facade, which are statically connected at the top and the bottom of the building construction and that carry the necessary electronics required for operation. Horizontal lamellae are integrated between these profiles and are mounted with a total of 250,000 LEDs. The aluminum lamella used was especially created by ag4 for this project. Corporate Identity and International Flair ag4 designs and produces the content for the Media Facade for T-Mobile and activates it online using special control software from Cologne. From a viewing distance of 40 meters, a transparent image veils the facade, thereby merging Architecture and Media Design into a single body. Much like glass painting, the magic and poetry of the installation is born through the appearance of transparency of the images on the facade. T-Mobile uses the transparent media facade to communicate both its company identity and its culture. An aspect that significantly stands out is the interna-tional flair of the company. Top locations from around the world are playfully brought into connection with the company. These animations are regularly included in the basic program of the media content display. An additional basic element of the media display of the media facade is the innovative presentation of the T-Mobile logo. New animations are constantly being created that artistically stage the presentation of the logo.
