TAMAKICHI MOCHITEN is a rice-cake shop followed by the ninth generations since the Edo period. The first floor is a rice-cake shop, and the second floor and the third floor become the house The main design requests from this client are to combine Japanese tradition and modern and to stand with presence along the intersection. We focused on the roof design, which is one of the japanese architectural characteristics.
Our design that has been examined from various perspectives, such as short-distance and long-distance view has created a new landscape in the city while passers imagine the traditional houses of Japan. Store entrance is located under the big roof. Small space in front the entrance that was taking advantage of the acute angle of the site offers a comfortable public place.
