‘The Arc of Light is a waterfront installation that seeks to capture and amplify the changes in natural light - from the rising sun to the star-filled sky - by recording the flow of light and shadow through the language of architecture and guiding people to feel the connection between the universe and themselves. The project intends to give poetry to this open space by the sea, weaving the journey of sunlight and starlight into an immersive viewing experience.
Concept and Narrative:
Light is the central narrator of this installation. In the alternation of day and night, traces of time are projected and flow through the installation through light and shadow. Inspired by the intersection of the celestial trajectory and the sea horizon, the installation mimics an abstract ‘arc of light’ - an open curved structure that serves as a viewing frame as well as a device to capture the changing nature of the sky and the sea.
Experience and meaning:
‘The Arc of Light is a space for dialogue with light and shadow, a place where time is made tangible. During the day, visitors can follow the path of the sun and perceive the rhythm of life in the first rays of sunrise; at night, they can contemplate the depth of the universe and the insignificance of human beings under the starry sky.
By watching the light change, ‘Arc of Light’ invites people to step away from the hustle and bustle of the city for a moment and look at the magnificence and constancy of nature from a pure perspective. The installation is not only a part of the landscape, but also a poem about the intersection of time, space and light.
Design vocabulary:
Openness, fluidity and immersion are the core keywords of the spatial narrative of ‘Arc of Light’. It carries the respect and reverence for nature, and tells the story of the symbiosis between the coast, the sky and people in every moment of light change.
