The client here is a well heeled family with their roots from Jaipur and with wings all over the globe in terms of family infrastructure. Mumbai is the melting pot for the family and their relatives. The concept we evolved as designers was to create a colonnade and a plaza in the centre, acting as the living space. The modernistic arches also geometrically bear resemblance to the colonnades in Jaipur palaces, though more relevant to the new age context. The idea was to create a space for family get together where they feel a connection to their roots. 

Furniture that is bespoke and softer in form is juxtaposed with a flamboyant lounger having a feather printed fabric on subtle texture rugs from Jaipur rugs. A stack of chests in leather of travel valises made from Magus Designs acts as a side table and the thinking man parametric statue inspired from Michaelangelo’s David strikes a pose and is a conversation piece. The city view is panoramic and the balcony offers breathtaking views of the racecourse and the Arabian sea beyond.

The artwork between the colonnade is by Kisalay Vora works from his 2020 collection on Brahmand – which unifies with the Indian essence of the universality of life and location. 

The Dining Room has a large sculptural garden like installation from Klove Design Studio which has interpreted leaves in cane and metal. The necessity to integrate storage, an essential mandate of each home has been well concealed behind champagne fluted glass shutters.

The Den takes context from the location of the Mumbai Racecourse and has a wallpaper from London Art Company.

Sensitivity to light, color, texture , form and aesthetic integration is given for all spaces like the bedrooms and the toilets for different members of the family who inhabit the house. The ceiling for the master bedroom is also interpreted as a modernized canopy cover over the resting bed.

Annkur Khosla Design Studio believes that thought and creativity in design and details can transform our lives and connectivity of our rich heritage with the modern context is an interesting amalgamation to India Modern Design.
