THE PAUL-BELMONDO MUSEUM

Musée Belmondo

chartier-corbasson architectes as Architects

Built in the eighteenth century, Château Buchillot at Boulogne-Billancourt comprises a main building and two wings opening onto a three-sided courtyard . It is a listed building and forms part of the Edmond-de-Rothschild heritage site.

We need a policy for the built environment that would allow contemporary sculpture to once again become part of architectural practice.» Paul Belmondo

Paul Belmondo's work lends itself to a pure, tranquil, untrammeled setting. Our proposal offers two atmospheres.

Exhibiting the work in a setting of the utmost serenity possible. Architecture is twisted to integrate the work in a space that exists as a support to the work. Niches, alcoves, raised floors, openings, and contrived backdrops create multiples sight lines, discoveries and frames for the landscape. Sources of artificial light are artfully hidden and natural light is filtered to create a smooth, otherworldly luminescence.

Moving within the thickness of the walls. This space is reminiscent of the backstage of a theatre, not only the green rooms and the artists' workrooms but all the memories and references to other times and other performers. These two spaces are created to allow the option of linking them as a unique pathway.

As regards the exterior, a single bronze-like material has been used - a fitting symbol of our cutting edge approach to our work.
