Party in the Middle?
When a “landlocked” interior parcel behind their house came up for sale, clients Per and Cecilia saw more than an empty lot with a lot of zoning constraints. They saw it as an opportunity to create a modern take on a quincho - the traditional outdoor kitchen and entertaining spaces from Cecilia’s native Argentina - while providing flex space for visiting friends and family to stay.
Dyna Builders, DeForest Architects, landscape architects SCJ and interior designer Marinana Flombaum worked together to develop the design around the mantra: Maximum Fun, Minimum Fuss.
Key elements include:
• The Quincho sports a full kitchen dining area inside plus a large BBQ and Argentinian grill outside.
• A fire table, swim spa and adjacent lawn all help take the party outside
• The exterior is clad in tough metal and cement siding to reduce maintenance.
• A hard-troweled concrete floor throughout is forgiving of spills, weather, and foot traffic. A wood ceiling provides warmth in a less vulnerable location.
• On the interior, cabinets, counters and backsplash are all faced in Dekton, a sintered stone tile
• Large glass doors slide out of the way to expand the living space and welcome in sun and fresh air
• A wall of cabinet doors slide open for access to a coffee station and storage or close to hide clutter.
• A simple bathroom serves party and overnight guests.
• A steel ladder, designed by DeForest Architects and fabricated by the Dyna Metal shop, rolls out to provide access to a loft that can be used as an office or additional sleeping space.
