Viccarbe, a leading Valencian company specializing in furniture for work environments and unique spaces, was responsible for furnishing for fully furnishing The Terminal Hub, the new technological innovation center located in La Marina de Valencia. Opened in October 2024, this space has become home to more than 500 professionals and 32 companies from the technology sector.
The Terminal Hub, a center for talent and innovation situated in the former Maritime Station of the Port of Valencia, has opened its doors to professionals, startups, and companies in a 5,000-square-meter space equipped with over 700 pieces of designer furniture from the Valencian company Viccarbe.
With a design that balances aesthetics, comfort, and functionality, Viccarbe's furniture helps create a dynamic environment where creativity and collaboration take center stage, set within the brutalist architectural backdrop of the former Maritime Passenger Station. This project showcases Viccarbe’s unwavering commitment to design excellence, strengthening its presence in iconic projects both nationally and internationally.
The project is the result of a collaboration between architect Ricardo Orts and interior designer Héctor Muñoz, who sought the ideal contract furniture solution to bring functionality, warmth, comfort, and design to this large 1980s building, characterized by its vast volumes and concrete construction, in line with brutalist aesthetics.
"The Terminal Hub aspires to be the home of innovation. That’s why we wanted a contract furniture partner capable of blending home and office elements, with innovative design, high-quality materials, and lasting durability. Viccarbe was the perfect choice. Additionally, the building itself plays a major role in the space, so we needed contemporary, cozy, and functional furniture that would not compete with the surroundings but rather enhance them—to create a home within a large-scale concrete structure," explains interior designer Héctor Muñoz.
The three floors of The Terminal Hub have been equipped with Viccarbe—except for the office chairs—featuring collections such as the Trestle tables by John Pawson, Season sofas by Piero Lissoni, Burin tables by Patricia Urquiola, and Maarten chairs and armchairs by Víctor Carrasco, among others. A single building that houses diverse spaces: a workspace with coworking areas, meeting rooms, and an auditorium; a restaurant; and the VIP Club of the Valencia Chamber of Commerce.
The Terminal Hub has been designed to cater to digital nomads, freelance professionals, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and corporate projects, particularly those related to creativity and innovation. As such, each floor of the building features a tailored configuration and interior design to suit its users' needs.
"This was a special project for Viccarbe. We worked hand in hand with the designer throughout the process. We didn’t just want to supply furniture but to facilitate their work and provide everything they might need. That’s why we adapted our catalog with operational and meeting tables up to five meters long and custom-made lockers. All Viccarbe departments were involved and aligned to ensure the project's successful completion," says the company’s design director, Rubén Mateos.
Ground floor: 120 workstations in a coworking area
The ground floor of The Terminal Hub offers its members a spacious coworking area with up to 120 available workstations, as well as meeting and training rooms, an auditorium, and the Front restaurant. This fully flexible space encourages movement among digital nomads, allowing them to use the space according to their needs.
The area features white Maarten operational tables and high tables with Trestle stools, complemented by a lounge area with Sistema sofas by Lievore Altherr Molina, supported by scissor legs and wooden armrests, alongside a Zoco armchair by Víctor Carrasco and Maarten coffee tables. The goal is for users to feel free—to work in the operational area, relax on the sofas, have a drink at the bar, and interact with other professionals, fostering potential collaborations.
The auditorium, with a capacity of around 100 people, can open up to the terrace through its flexible windows, integrating the outdoor space. For the stage, rotating Copa chairs designed by Ramos & Bassols ensure comfort.
The Front cafeteria is furnished with Burin tables, Season sofas, Maarten chairs, and an outdoor Trestle table. At the entrance, the reception area features a small exhibition of Viccarbe furniture, specifically Savina sofas by Víctor Carrasco, which will be periodically reconfigured to create new layouts.
First floor: Valencia Chamber of Commerce VIP Club
The first floor of The Terminal Hub houses a boardroom, the Valencia Chamber of Commerce VIP Club, and private offices for up to 150 people. The Chamber of Commerce space mimics the aesthetics of an airport VIP lounge, combining work areas with sofas for more relaxed moments. The partitions offer superior acoustic insulation, with double panels that are also movable, providing flexibility throughout the space.
More elegant finishes were chosen, including walnut wood and upholstery that convey warmth. The Chamber’s signature striped graphic identity is echoed in the carpets, lighting, and chairs, creating a unified aesthetic. The furniture selection includes Maarten, Trestle, and Burin tables in black oak, Maarten sled-base chairs, and Noha height-adjustable chairs by Ludovica Serafini and Roberto Palomba.
The boardroom features a large 5-meter-long Burin table, accompanied by rotating Copa chairs and two Sistema armchairs to enjoy views of La Marina.
The remaining offices on the first floor have a modular configuration, allowing partitions to be adjusted according to evolving needs, with furniture solutions from Maarten and Trestle collections.
The exterior corridor stands out for its natural plants, arranged by landscape designer Diego Olivares, blending seamlessly with various Viccarbe collections, including Season sofas and poufs, Foco armchairs, Sistema benches, and Colubi armchairs by RT Design.
Second floor: a large space for entrepreneurs and businesses
The second floor consists of large coworking spaces with fixed workstations for entrepreneurs and businesses, accommodating up to 300 workers across both wings of the building. Acoustic booths form a central axis within the space, accommodating 1, 2, 4, or 6 people, equipped with Trestle tables and Maarten chairs.
For this environment, Viccarbe custom-designed Maarten tables for eight workstations, along with matching cabinets and lockers, bringing the total number of furniture pieces manufactured for The Terminal Hub to approximately 700.
The cafeteria is organized with symmetrical layouts, featuring Season compositions and high-back Sistema armchairs that enhance focus, alongside Zoco armchairs. The dining area and terrace include Cambio tables by Víctor Carrasco and Maarten chairs, complemented by a high Trestle table and Last Minute stools by Patricia Urquiola.
A second boardroom replicates the first-floor Burin table in a white finish, paired with cantilever-leg Copa chairs that mirror the curved concrete arches defining the space.
