Make are both Masterplanners and Architects for this extensive new residential development close to Tianjin. The site enjoys an open, natural setting and is enlivened by an attractive lake and river. In approaching the masterplan we have sought to enhance these qualities, making use of the area's excellent natural environment.

The design envisages water being drawn through the site, connecting the river, lake and residential areas to create a waterside community located around a series of landscaped spaces. Ecological corridors in the form of public parks link the lake to the heart of the site, enhancing the biodiversity of the area. In order to create a tranquil living environment, vehicle traffic is concentrated at the edges of the site, maximising green space and pedestrian areas. The river becomes a linear public space for the enjoyment of residents.Key to the design is the integration of individual buildings, public spaces and landscape, which have differing characters across the masterplan.

To the east, the first two phases are urban in character with groups of residential towers overlooking the canals, while the final two phases to the west are more natural and organic in expression, with clusters of houses arranged around streams.At the bend of the river, a new town square is created providing a heart to the development and forming a strong connection between water and land. A hierarchy of public spaces is established, ranging from the civic scale of the centre to more intimate play-spaces adjacent to clusters of residences. The buildings are designed to be simple and elegant - fulfilling their function and giving a sense of delight to the residents.
