A House of Champagne - La Closerie

What could be more natural for a champagne artist than to live in his vineyard?

Set back from the existing surrounding wall, the house plays discreetly on the street side to better open to the South towards the vineyards. By a simple and functional L-shaped interior organization, living rooms and bedrooms benefit from a favorable exposure and a remarkable view on the "Montagne de Reims".

In the immediate vicinity is the cellar, a place where the magic of champagne happens. The subtle shape of the zinc roofs gives soft lines and a contemporary unity to the two volumes which respond to each other, complement each other and blend into the landscape. Natural materials are an obvious choice for this project: wood and zinc cladding wraps the house in a protective skin.

The wooden structure provides very good insulation and airtightness performance, which reduces heating needs, covered by the sole use of renewable energies. The large bay windows to the south bring light, warmth and views to the living spaces. Protected from summer overheating by the  roof overhangs, they extend to the outside by a large wooden terrace. At this border, between interior and exterior, the tension between a grandiose landscape and an architecture of sober elegance is at its peak, as is the emotion.
