Dr. Jesús Carrera's Unittas Pediatric Centers expand their services in Chiclana de la Frontera with the relocation to a 261 m² premises where they establish emergency services, scheduled consultations, and other family medicine specialties. The proposal by Estudio EEBA establishes metaphors based on the novel The Little Prince, as it is a text that appeals to both children and the new adult sector that the center targets.
This is why the façade recalls a hangar or an airplane rudder, the waiting rooms are covered with blue ceilings with light rings and cylindrical poufs as metaphors for the universe through which its protagonist traveled. Other extracted elements include the large 40-meter "light boa" that runs along the ceiling of the premises and the cladding of the consultation room entrances with slats that evoke the "virgin forest" that so attracted the author.
The program required the separation at the entrance of children from other patients, which is why the reception is located behind a low wall that channels these flows. The circulation areas and waiting rooms are linked to the south façade to receive natural light and establish a relationship with the urban space.
They are non-orthogonal spaces in which the furniture, lighting, and finishes are arranged organically and pay special attention to the scale and universe of children.
