UNIVERSITY RESIDENCE ISONZO BOCCONI

Architectural report: The new building required by Bocconi University, will integrate the urban lot already developed with other residential buildings. The planning purpose is to bring out the whole university estate, linking it to the city layout in a significant way. The open space inside the new building will be connected in the future to the city, in sequence by a “town recess”. The town recess will be directly connected with the railway area - linking up with the urban morphology, hence creating a functional and symbolic continuity with the city. This work refers to the restructure of an existing building and the construction of a new one for the making of residential area for university students. The existing building is planned as a hotel with single rooms whilst the new building as a tower has been developed in apartments, each one for four students.

On the residential floors there are common areas. In Viale Isonzo, as example, there is a first floor with a living room, a study and reading room and a winter garden. On the second level there is another relax area and on the third floor there is a gallery overlooking the lower floors. These common areas are the main aggregation places for the residents. In the main entrance at Viale Isonzo 21 there is a porter’s lodge and the security areas. This project is aimed to guarantee efficiency and comforts at the university campus including both cultural and recreational services as well as the administrative and technological ones.
