The approach to the program began by understanding the existing complex (Mundet factory), its memory and relationship with the surroundings.
Through the analysis of available historical elements, it was found that the links between the Mundet factory and the outskirts (either for receiving raw material or for shipping the processed products) were made through a rail connection between the pier that still exists under a control building which has since been demolished, (where the control of the cork and the exit of processed products took place), and the building where the entrance to the factory complex was located.

The proposal recreates this entry into the Mundet space through a portico emphasised by the alignment with the pier and visual connection with the building Armazém 56 - Arte Sx. The passage acquires the scale of the old existing volume, becoming its negative and connecting to the old 2-storey volumes, passing from door to portico, marking the passage, integrating the existing one into a 2-storey plinth and "widening" the Largo.

The limits of the new volumes respect the historical footprint of the factory buildings, maintaining a set of relationships between buildings and walkable streets/alleys inside the complex and creating a courtyard that will serve the hotel and its functions but also enhancing future connections to the Mundet complex.
As mentioned above, the whole of the plinth, on 2 levels, adopting a pre-existing language and will harbour the connecting functions between indoor areas common outer areas.

A regular “new” volume of the upper levels is to be covered in cork but with an open and more contemporary language, is placed of the the pre-existing buildings and houses more accommodation units as well as the panoramic swimming pool on the roof.
