Utsiktskvartalet in the Tiedemannsbyen area of Oslo is an excellent example of how architect, contractor and developer have made the most of opportunities offered by Steni façade panels.
Tiedemannsbyen on Ensjø in Oslo is located on the site where the J. L. Tiedemann Tobacco Factory – one of the cornerstone enterprises in the city for many years – once stood. Today, the old factory building and warehouses have been demolished to make room for residences and commercial properties in one of the fastest growing districts in the city of Oslo. Tiedemannsbyen comprises apartment buildings and terraced houses in an urban setting, surrounded by delightful green areas that soak up plenty of sun.
Fast installation – minimal waste “We cut and drill different shapes and sizes directly on the production line, and this enables us to complete the installation process much more quickly than with full-format panels. In addition, our façade panels result in minimal cutting and waste processing on site,” explains Jan Terje Nielsen from Steni.
While most buildings tend to be white or grey, the architects behind Utsiktskvartalet have decided to make use of the full spectrum of colours available as standard in the Steni product range. At the same time, they chose different levels of gloss to create an interesting and beautiful façade.
40 - years quarantee
For the housing association itself, the choice of Steni façade panels brings significant positive financial returns over time. This is because the façade panels are maintenance-free and come with an impressive 40-year guarantee. I recently visited a building where Steni façade panels were fitted in 1971, and they almost look like they were installed a couple of days ago,” adds Jan Terje Nielsen.
A lively local environment
In addition to residences, the new city district will feature offices, shops and a variety of services to ensure residents can enjoy a lively local environment. Other districts including Kampen, Lille Tøyen Hageby and Grünerløkka are all within easy walking distance, while the centre of Oslo is just three stops away on the Metro. Tiedemannsbyen is the perfect place to live for young and old alike. It has everything necessary for an active, spontaneous lifestyle, and residents can also choose to step back and simply enjoy the green oases and the peace and quiet they provide.
No need for a GPS
“Unfortunately, most apartment buildings today are either white or grey, so you almost need a GPS unit to find your own apartment. This is a problem I can assure you the residents of Utsiktskvartalet in Tiedemannsbyen will never experience,” concludes Jan Terje Nielsen.
