Previously we had designed the whole building and this flat was designed especially. São Paulo city is very famous for its ugly immense buildings, but this one has an unusual scale, only three storeys with four units on each. The upper four were upgraded with private rooftops (duplex). At the construction stage we were invited to develop a special interior plan for a young couple who had bought one of these lavish duplexes.

Of course we adapted many convenient solutions, which was possible because nothing had been concluded at that time. We first suggested that the concrete (beehive) ceiling be left bare, with no protection on the raw cement. On the occasions where we had pipes or electric installations to conceal, we needed to attach extra aluminium lines to the ceiling, not entirely enclosed but nicely resolving the visual problem. With this clean solution the flat seems much higher inside, compared to the others, resulting in a welcoming and contemporary atmosphere. We designed, every detail inside the house, kitchen cabinets, wardrobes, flooring, ceiling, fireplace, lighting system, all items of decoration and functionality; it’s all very simple but efficient, using the smart language of occupation.

As well the happy clients, we are very satisfied with the final result. The flat has a very relaxing and cosy atmosphere, the wonderful city park view across the street is just amazing. Whether standing up or lying down by the pool the view at sunset is absolutely priceless. When we find an opportunity to work on private houses inside buildings, to be able to design is also extremely enjoyable, for us it doubles the pleasure.
