The idea behind the renovation project was to create a tailor-made villa for the clients, with a style that looks to the typical materials of Ibizan constructions but reinterpreted in a contemporary key: a Mediterranean villa atmosphere, in which the open spaces were cared for and designed with the same attention as the interiors, reconciling famous pieces of design and contemporary art with custom-made furniture made by island craftsmen under the Studio’s artistic direction.
The most difficult challenge of the project, in addition to creating a homogeneous conformation between the various original buildings, was the creation of the garden, which had to stitch up the existing difference in height between the two properties (more than 3 meters), bridging it with a system of ramps, a series of embankments made of cor-ten steel curves shaped and designed to create areas for relaxation, play and to connect the different levels of the two pre-existing houses.
The materials used for the project are very unique: some come from Italy, such as the oak parquet flooring carefully chosen from salvaged beams from an old palace, while the stone in the interior flooring comes from southern France but was handcrafted in Italy. The interior doors are reclaimed and come from the island of Ibiza itself and from Andalusia. The antique tiles of the exterior terrace carpets and dining table are cemented from apartments in Seville. A mix of materials that involved extensive research and selection. The end result is a contemporary Mediterranean villa that perfectly reflects the clients’ character and taste: elegant, full of contrasts and rich in color.
