Solomon Cordwell Buenz worked closely with leadership at Vital Proteins—a Chicago-based collagen and wellness company—in identifying key space needs and strategies used to create the firm’s permanent headquarters in the Fulton Market district of the West Loop.
Consisting of three large floors in a former meatpacking plant, the new layout includes over 11,750 square feet of retail space and over 25,600 square feet of office space to accommodate a growing workforce and offer unique amenities that support the dynamic and evolving organization.
The goal was to maintain many of the historic landmark building’s original features, including its external structure, exposed brick walls, wood floors and ceilings while also creating an inspired office environment that embodies the company’s values of helping people live full, vibrant lives.
The exposed brick and concrete of the original loft building are complemented by natural design elements including white-washed wood and living green walls.
Vibrant visuals and geometric elements made from authentic, sustainable materials add punches of color and instill a feeling of light-heartedness, encouraging a laid-back, coastal ambiance. The workplace design itself promotes communication and teamwork and is connected by a “boardwalk” serving as the main circulation path through the space.
Additionally, a central two-story atrium features a cafe and a large social stairway used for gatherings and presentations by influencers, brand partners, and clients placing collaboration on full display. The resulting design is a dynamic and welcoming open floorplan with an emphasis on the clean, modern and cool.
