W House is a brand new house that the owner has decided to re-build on an old site because they are familiar with its neighborhoods. However, over the years, the green spaces in the surrounding area - a new CBD of Bangkok on Ratchadapisek Road have gradually been replaced by high-rise buildings. Therefore, the main idea of this house is to bring back the atmosphere of living among a shady green space with its nature and also to fit in all the home’s desired functions as well as the life style of four family’s members in two generations.
The building is in simple shape in order to use every single space efficiently. The L-shape building surrounded by planting with a large green space as an inner courtyard. This inner courtyard provides more privacy, better views and greater ventilation for all areas. This L-shape building layout with large voids can also create great ventilation for indoor areas and also a linkage between common area on the first floor and private areas of each family member on second and third floor.
The mass of the building is a stack of an overlapping in both vertical and horizontal planes. An overlapping helps reducing the impacts from the road in front of the house. By designing the front building in an in descending height and leaving a large balcony to an open perspective. An overlapping shape with a grouping of trees creating shade and reducing sunlight during the day. The front of the house facing the East providing shade for the relaxing space at an inner court in the morning. The main trees face the South West therefore, can provide shade for indoor living area and dining area on the first floor throughout the afternoon.
