On a difficult site overlooking the Columbia River, the White Salmon Residence is the realization of the owner’s dream of creating a weekend home in the gorge near their favorite kitesurfing and skiing locations. The programmed of the house presented one of the biggest challenges in the design as the key rooms needed to be loaded onto the South side of the house to maximize views. To make the most of the scenic views as well as to provide maximum day lighting, the Southern facade features many large windows and sliding window walls.
On the interior of the house, a classic black and white color scheme and regional materials resulted in a sophisticated modern retreat. The exterior siding as well as decorative beams on the interior were milled from trees on the site.
