BIBAFOE and WIBIETOE are created by assembling several panels to a whole. In my whole oeuvre I have been dragged with contradictions between conventional models from the architecture (box) and the virtual designs (blob). Here I choose the third way: the synthesis of both.
These designs, which extends like a web across the facade, exists out of a series of digital "blob sculptures": organic computer generated shapes that question the rigidity and immobility of architectural construction. I want to make the facade and stairs space more attractive with this design.
The shape originated from the inspiration of a pebble that falls into the water, the lines are spread like a network over the surface and can easily be interrupted. This network refers to the choices and different periods in life. The dynamic vortex indicates the complex times, in contrast to the motionless places that refer to the quiet periods in life.
However, these forms are not permanent in the virtual space, but are converted back into a graphic abstraction. The result is a dynamic drawing referring to traditional graphic images, but also to digital design. In his work, he examines the interchangeability between virtual and real space and he focuses on the in situ relationship between sculpture and architecture.
The drawing therefore refers to an endless walk in nature. The drawing is reminiscent of anivy structure that seems to grow over the entire building. Growing, a concept that is very relevant in a school, and therefore directly refers to the "growth of the child". Nick wants to under line the tension between the digital and the real, between the physical and the material and between technology and craft, but also wants to eliminate them through an innovative design. The panels therefore shift the boundary between inside and outside. The panels form a second skin of the building, just like the protection of a child.
From the street side people get to see the artwork. This way they get curious about what is happening inside the building. The artwork will form a landmark. It will speak to the imagination and refers to the function and investigations conducted within this building as a school or daycare.
