The hinterland of Lake Constance is characterized by meadows, forests, and fruit-growing farms. Wielandsweiler is clustered around the old inn "Zur Traube" (At the Grape). As part of this farm complex, an old hop barn was converted into living space, transforming the existing building typology into a new form of use.

The two-story building with a gable roof and exposed roof trusses was divided into two levels. The ground floor houses the living room, dining room, kitchen, a guest room, and a utility room. The open space on the upper floor serves as a hallway connecting the bathroom and bedroom. The window openings, in their size and positioning, are based on the old barn doors and open the building to the elements in every direction. Sliding wooden doors in front allow the building to be partially or completely closed off, so that the new "residential barn" is hardly distinguishable from the surrounding sheds.

The replacement building also follows the simple principles of its predecessor in its materials; boards of varying widths made of silver fir create a vibrant facade. The old floor slab was extended, structurally reinforced, and finished with polished screed in the interior. All wooden fixtures are made of spruce and are complemented by white wall and ceiling surfaces, creating a minimalist yet honest spatial experience.
