Yellowhead County engaged us to build a new facility to replace an outdated building that was no longer able to meet the County’s needs. The new Administration Building is a dynamic, architecturally unique and appealing building that captures the personality and spirit of the community. It also speaks to the diversity of Yellowhead County, reflecting both its industrial and agricultural roots. Notably, the building materials celebrate Edson’s important wood industry.
Within the 1831 m² facility is a dramatic Council Chamber, a public gathering space and lobby, and a number of small meeting rooms that can be used by staff and various committees established by Council. The Administration Building houses the majority of the administrative staff of the County, and also provides office space for public works staff and common office space for sub-office staff.
Sustainability was a key factor in the design of this municipal building: it is a zero-emission building, meaning that it is not connected to a gas line. Features such as solar hot water heating, and recycled rubber shingles further reinforce the project’s commitment to the environment. The facility is LEED Silver certified.
