Zoku Amsterdam, the award-winning hybrid hospitality brand, has reintroduced its fully renovated rooftop into a multifunctional environment that blurs the boundaries between living, working, meeting, and socialising. Designed in collaboration with Amsterdam-based studio Concrete and co-created with feedback from over 4,000 guests and locals, the space embodies Zoku’s mission to foster connection, creativity, and comfort.
A Rooftop Designed for Every Occasion
The 234m² event space at the heart of the rooftop has been reimagined as a light-filled, flexible venue for up to 175 people. Retractable walls, whiteboard partitions, and interactive design elements allow it to convert into two distinct rooms – ‘Think Big’ and ‘Dream Bigger’ - ideal for workshops, keynotes, and pop-up dining.
Alongside this, a hybrid coworking lounge provides inspiring worktables and private phone booths during the day, transforming by night into a cozy venue for live music or social events of up to 50 guests. Two new rooftop terraces, lush with greenery and soft seating, extend the program outdoors. These hidden oases offer panoramic city views, and one can be reserved for private gatherings of up to 50 people.
The Living Kitchen, Zoku’s Mediterranean-inspired restaurant, has also been refreshed. Serving 80% vegetarian dishes, it now features flexible seating, intimate booths, and a cozy ambiance that doubles as a casual coworking zone.
Sustainability Built into Every Detail
Zoku Amsterdam’s rooftop redevelopment reflects the brand’s long-standing commitment to sustainability. A certified B Corp since 2018, Zoku was the first Dutch hospitality brand to achieve the certification, with all locations now B Corp certified as of 2025. Additional credentials include Green Key eco-label certification and a BREEAM In-Use (Asset) rating of ‘Good.’
Instead of replacing, the renovation prioritised reuse: sofas were reupholstered, tables repurposed, and materials upcycled wherever possible. Flooring and panelling feature MOSO® FSC-certified bamboo, while the rooftop garden and greenhouse integrate biodiversity with birdhouses, wild bee habitats, and pollinator-friendly planting.
Operational sustainability measures are equally robust: the building runs on 100% renewable electricity, employs LED and motion-sensor lighting, and integrates heat-recovery ventilation with smart building management systems. A green sedum and moss roof improves insulation while supporting urban biodiversity.
Measuring Impact
Zoku’s environmental management system (EMS) monitors greenhouse gas emissions, with the company achieving Climate Neutral certification in 2022. In its 2022 update, Zoku reported offsetting 746 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent (based on its 2019 footprint) through investment in Dutch methane fermentation and energy-generation projects.
