low-cost terminal, Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport

As a gateway to a city or a country, an airport is the first particular experience encountered by a passenger. It requires a simple form suitable for such a project. Moreover, we need to find a functional, flexible solution, capable of adapting itself in time because of the complex and accurate organization of each terminal.

Hence, the project is in the form of a compact volume, bathed with a generous daylight.  Inside of the external shell, each functional infrastructure develops itself independently.

The single envelope is simple and by carefully designing the openings, we created unique rhythms and variations. Therefore, the metallic facades are punctuated by polycarbonate panels in a regular pattern.

These openings provide a substantial amount of natural light inside. They are treated as a signal on the main facade as well as the rest of the envelop including the roof.

The pattern created by the white opening and black metallic strip is inspired by the Dazzle Painting of Sir Norman Wilkinson for WW1 boats. Using zebra-like strip, he was able to break the silhouette of ship and create a camouflage effect. The terminal C Hall uses this principal to identify its functions: Departures / Arrivals.
