“The world is your oyster.” — William Shakespeare

Nestled along the shores of Rushihai Resort in Qinhuangdao, ShiJiu is more than just a dining space, it is an experience woven into the landscape. Overlooking sweeping ocean views, the design embraces the natural beauty of its surroundings, seamlessly blending into the sand, sea, and sky. Inspired by the ever-changing patterns of wind and waves, ShiJiu is envisioned as an organic extension of the coastline, subtle, fluid, and in perfect harmony with nature.

An Oyster by the Shore

ShiJiu’s concept draws from the quiet elegance of an oyster shell, its layered textures and gradient colors. The space unfolds like the inner layers of an oyster, reflecting the rhythmic movement of water and sand. At the heart of the interior, the central bar takes center stage, crowned by a suspended, polished stainless steel sphere that mirrors the space around it. Like a pearl nestled within an oyster, this sculptural element becomes the focal point, catching light and reflections, unifying the ambiance with a quiet yet striking presence.

Crafting a Space Rooted in Nature

The layout of ShiJiu is designed to encourage movement and exploration. The bar anchors the space, while functional areas unfold around it, forming a dynamic and immersive experience. To the right, a wood-fired pizza oven adds warmth and depth to the atmosphere, while to the left, a private dining room with flexible sliding doors adapts to different needs, offering intimacy while remaining connected to the larger space. Throughout, banquette seating and freestanding tables are arranged to create a variety of perspectives, ensuring that every guest experiences the space in their own way.

Materials that Speak of the Coastline

The material palette pays tribute to the textures and tones of the coastline. The ceiling, dressed in shades of blue, interacts with the light to create subtle gradients, reflecting the ever-changing hues of the ocean. Its shimmering effect recalls the iridescent interior of an oyster, capturing both its softness and depth. Metallic accents trace the layers of the space, echoing the organic, layered folds of an oyster shell. The walls and floors are finished with a gradient blend of black and white pebbledash, reminiscent of the color transitions found inside an oyster, where different layers seamlessly merge, worn smooth by time and tides.

Subtle details reinforce the narrative, pearl-like wall lamps and small pearl-shaped table lamps illuminate the pathways, enhancing the fluidity of the design. The result is a space that feels sculpted by nature itself, a reflection of the quiet beauty found along the shore.

Blurring the Lines Between Interior and Landscape

ShiJiu is designed to dissolve boundaries between the interior and the landscape, creating an uninterrupted dialogue with the surrounding environment. A horizontally extended mirror along the walls captures the shifting horizon, amplifying the sense of openness.

The reflection mimics the slow unfolding of an oyster shell, subtly drawing in the seascape, light, and air.

A row of fully operable floor-to-ceiling glass doors seamlessly connects the interior to the outdoor terrace, where a dark wooden deck extends toward the shore. Here, custom metal water basins and fire pits introduce warmth and movement, inviting guests to linger under the open sky. The transition between indoor and outdoor spaces is effortless, reinforcing the idea that ShiJiu is not just a place, it is a moment within nature.
