An alteration and addition that reimagines a mid-century home in Caulfield for contemporary living, while celebrating the character of the original structure. The design carries the home’s mid-century curves into both the architecture and interiors, creating a seamless dialogue between old and new. The addition adopts a considered palette of orange brick, matched to the existing house and dark cladding, to complement the original dwelling while giving the extension a contemporary yet harmonious presence. This project consists of the rehabilitation and extension of a building in Lisbon’s Campo de Ourique district. While preserving the original architectural character, the intervention sought to adapt the building and its apartments to contemporary standards of comfort and functionality. Thread House is a one-and-a-half-story front and rear extension to a modern terraced house in Tower Hamlets, East London, adding extra space to the home to better serve the demands of family life. The form of the building responds to the surroundings while creating a cohesive interior layout that unites all parts of the plan. The Stadthaus is located in the central street Lederergasse - a livable, quiet street that connects Linz's main square, via the tobacco factory, with the port. The existing building – its basic substance from the 16th century – has been renovated and expanded. The project consisted of dismantling the roof of a three-storey building, with three apartments per floor, and replacing it with a new volume that contains the enlargement of two of the apartments on the top floor, a total of 97m2 plus 54m2 of terraces. Pablo Casares The construction was made of wood to facilitate the process and minimize weight. In fact, despite adding a floor, the total weight was reduced and thus doesn´t add load to a somewhat delicate building of the 1940ies, with a protected façade due to its historical value. Our brief was to transform an existing 1960s detached house into a contemporary, 5 bedroom family home with a new master-bedroom suite and open-plan living that addresses the garden setting.
