The house has extensive glazing to capture the sea and city views from all rooms. Lightforge Photography More

Four Winds

Situated on an enviable prominent suburban corner site within walking distance to Sumner beach clients were keen to rebuild on their existing site. The decision was made to remove their existing family dwelling which would have required considerable remediation to convert into a healthy home to accommodate the new house. The site runs EW and the house follows this orientation facing north enjoying all day sun. Roof overhangs and sliding screens provide flexible sun control. Hill views to the east are captured by the upper rooms and from the western wing. Despite being a flat site, the floor level was required to be raised significantly above the existing ground due to being in a flood management area. This meant steps were required for en... More

Indian Hotel

Designing a lighting fountain could be tricky as there is so much at play that could spoil the overall landscape. In an Indian hotel, the waterproof Flexglo™ F22 flexible lights transform its water fountain into a dramatic nighttime focal point.  The position of the light either breaks or makes the mood of the space. The Clear luminaires and connections are properly sealed and watertight. Instead of submerging the LEDs, the designer decided to mount them below the pedestal and the sides of the staircases. This well thought placement pays dividends because the water fountain turns out soothing visually, allowing people from all directions to get the optimal visual effects of the water feature. More

CASA PR

The house is located in a slopy terrain which has the virtue to be localised in a fairly high topographic altitude, due to this, with visual orientation to the litoral mountain range, the urban center and the sea. It also takes part in the formation of Vallpineda residential area, one of the first urbanisations that were developed in the city of Sitges. Jose Hevia Jose Hevia Not only the initial observation of the site revealed that the original topography of the empty plots had been modificated notoriously in the past, but also they had been disagreed with the urbanistic regulations about the land movements that were allowed to do. In fact, both neighboor’s adjacent plots had land increseaments because it was wanted to hav... More

Adequate garden and pool ALE

The client required an aesthetic and use change of the current garden and the incorporation of a swimming pool. The strategy is to understand the garden with an ‘outside room of the house’. The aesthetic and functional change involves the redesign of the space and the choice of appropriate materials for different uses. For the pool area, we bet on working the pavements and the bench with clay materials that provide naturalness and consistency. The perimeter vegetation surrounds the garden, giving a visual richness that is enhanced by the variation in height and volume of the different species planted in order to control the views with respect to the neighbors and reduce the visual impact of a perimeter fence. The incorporation... More

Coastal Family Home

The brief: Owners Damien and Belinda Wilde wanted to create a relaxed oasis where they could both entertain and escape, but with three school-aged sons practicality was also a priority. The architect's solution was to create a series of terraces and rooms that can be used for socialising or retreat. This resort-like configuration means teenagers can throw a pool party while Mum reads a book and Dad has a beer with a friend, all within their own spaces. "We never feel like we're living on top of each other," says Belinda.   Significant changes to the home: - A small series of rooms set back from the view was transformed into an open-plan kitchen, living and dining area that makes the most of the harbour aspect and is flooded with na... Oasis 2 Residence

This luxury residence was embedded into this steep hillside to overlook Lake Travis from two confluent directions. We were challenged to create views through, and access to, the pool from every room on the main level. In response, we created a glass jewell box that sits on top of a concrete plinth. The main entry area is an open void that bridges the lake to the user upon immediate entry. The lower level is is comprised of four individual private suites that pierce through the concrete shell to accommodate lake views.   More

Slab House

Slab House project came into existence in the suburbs of Poznań on one of many hills surrounding the city. It was not an easy task - architects from mode:lina™ had to inscribe the building’s form into all too steep hill’s slope. As it turned out, the solution was, unexpectedly, childishly easy - recreate LEGO, it’s idea and turn it into reality. Three storeys of the building were separated from one another with even slabs that resemble childrens’ favourite blocks’ construction panels. On the base floor there's a more technical part of the house, along with a garage. This level was covered with constructive slab, allowing for flexibility of upper level planning. The 1st floor has been divided into 5 cubi... More

Jiunvfeng Bubble Pool on Mount Tai

“Leaning on the edge of the cliff, overlooking in all directions, enjoying the heavenly leisure.” In Li Bai’s verses, Mount Tai, the chief of the Five Sacred Mountains, breathed the air of the world and accommodated the most beautiful scenery of all. Faced with the ancient strata that have undergone 3 billion years of evolution, human beings are as small as a drop in the ocean, and how buildings, the habitat of human beings, will be integrated into the natural order?   Project Background   Jiunvfeng Bubble Pool is located in Dongximen Village, Tai’an, Shandong, a typical mountain village in northern China, occupying the natural beauty of the surrounding area of Mount Tai. However, due to the loss of nat... More

Waikanae House II

Sustainability was a primary focus in the design of this three-bedroom, cedar home.  With views to the western slopes of the Tararua range, natural ventilation and solar gains are maximised - the open fire and wood burner are all that's required for winter heating. The design also facilitates future photovoltaic power generation. Caption Created as a low, horizontal form that follows the contours of the hill, the home was constructed in two stages. The garage was built first to provide weekend accommodation while the property was established with native trees. The main house and swimming pool were the second stage.  Caption "This house, clad in a linear cedar and macrocarpa screen, opens up to sun and views on the hill... More
