Sir‑George‑Étienne‑Cartier Park Bathers’ Pavilion
The new aquatic facilities in Sir George Étienne Cartier Park replace a 1960s pool complex at the heart of a century old urban square. The project introduces a bathers’ pavilion and a family of outdoor basins that renew the experience of swimming while fitting sensitively into the existing canopy of trees and the surrounding residential fabric.

Legends Aquatic Center
The Legends Aquatic Center is a state-of-the-art facility providing exclusive training space for UC Berkeley’s intercollegiate aquatic athletes. It features a new 50M stretch pool with a two-centerline dive tower, locker rooms, and a multipurpose training room. The design establishes a connection with the university, creating a regional athletics precinct, and, at night, is a glowing beacon activating what was once a dark corner of the campus. The sustainably designed facility is highly functional, efficient, and durable—and exceeds sustainability requirements mandated by UC Berkeley. “How can this new Aquatic Centre effectively train Olympians, serve its community, and enhance the student experience. How can it operate ‘learn-to-swim’ programs while at the same time run a 1000 person swim meet?" In 2012, UBC sent more swimmers to the London Olympic Summer Games than anywhere in Canada, and had the most successful swim team in the country.
