KME Hall

KME group’s new hall in Florence is a representative environment, suitable for welcoming visitors and customers in a space which is both functional and comfortable for business meetings. The initial regular volume was deconstructed to expand the perception of space and amplify its expressive and practical capacity. A skilful play of volumes and light contrasts the orthogonality of the environment: elliptical volumes described by numerous vertical elements in polished copper intersect at different heights. The curvilinear shapes, the rhythmic repetition of the vertical elements, the different heights, all combine to expand the perception of space, making it multiform, in constant evolution, enveloping and creating an intimate, yet ope... House in a Garden

Situated at the northern tip of mainland Mauritius, Goodlands is one of the most densely populated neighbourhoods of the island nation. At the centre of Goodlands are large swathes of reserved forest lands, the fringes of which are occupied by sprawling family residences, far removed from the frenetic rush of denser developments close to the periphery. Located at the end of a residential street within these fringes, surrounded by protected land on two sides, sits the House In A Garden.   House In A Garden is home to a couple – who are avid art collectors – and their two young children, aged four and six. The house sits parallel to the south edge of the site, opening it up to the winter sun and a glimpse of the sea in the... More

Kaji Or Fire Cradle

HW Studio's office is located where just recently were the wood drying ovens of Señal furniture factory owned by Don Shoemaker, one of the most important Mexican furniture designers of the 20th century.  When the factory closed, the ovens remained abandoned and we thought it was a good idea to occupy and revamp them to develop our studio inside.   The space was divided into two areas, which we joined through a wide transition linking the technical work area to the conceptual work area.   The technical work area is dominated by a forceful element that we like to call "the altar” -- a large table on which we work models, plans, materials, concepts and in general everything that has to do with our architectural... Max Condos

The design of the building can be described in three fragments: the base, middle and top. The base of the building or podium varies in height from two to four storeys and occupies the majority of the site. The podium houses retail uses at grade. a mix of residential suites, and rental suites for the 2nd-4th floors. The retail component is scaled back or recessed for a 2 story height to allow for a covered pedestrian walkway for the residents to enter the building lobby as well as for the public to access the retail. This gesture of recessing the base of the building not only provides shelter from the elements but also widens the sidewalk allowing for a more generous space for pedestrians to engage and interact with, while the expansively gl... Daarbast Cafe

Daarbast Café is about 376 square meters. The main goal of its interior design is creating social interaction among people. Scaffolds are used as the main structure of design which grants an identity to the space. A part of the exterior wall is destroyed to benefit from sun light and natural views. The scaffold provided the context in which we could increase the area of the space and create visual transparency. Implementing the scaffolds not only impose low budget to the project but also create the possibility of various decoration fashions. There are different forms of settings in the café, made with scaffolds.Lead... More
